What are EM events in Ultima Online?

EM events are live, scheduled in-game events run by an Event Moderator — a Broadsword-appointed volunteer who steers the ongoing storyline of a single Ultima Online shard. Each EM hosts two to four events per month, typically lasting 30–90 minutes, in player-accessible locations on their home shard. Events combine scripted roleplay, custom monster spawns, and limited-edition rare drops that are unavailable from any other source in the game.

Every active official shard has its own EM and its own rotating schedule — Atlantic, Great Lakes, Pacific, Catskills, Lake Austin, Europa, Baja, Chesapeake, Drachenfels, Lake Superior, Legends, Napa Valley, Origin and Sonoma all run independent storylines. The countdown timers below show the next three upcoming events aggregated from the official schedule, converted to your local timezone, with links to event descriptions and locations. Past EM-event drops and their current player-market prices live on the Event Rares index.

When events happen

Most shards run 2–4 events per month, with a heavier cadence during Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and in-game anniversary seasons.

What drops

Cosmetic rares, hued clothing, named statuettes, Scrolls of Transcendence, and storyline artifacts — rewards are looted from corpses or handed out by the EM.

How to attend

Log in 10–15 minutes early, travel to the announced location, and bring healing supplies — many events feature scripted high-tier monsters.

EM Events — Frequently Asked Questions

What is an EM event in Ultima Online?

An EM event is a live in-game event run by an Event Moderator — a Broadsword volunteer responsible for telling the ongoing story of a single shard. EM events typically take place at scheduled times in player-accessible locations (Britain, Yew, Skara Brae, or shard-specific hubs) and feature scripted dialogue, roleplay encounters, custom monster spawns, and limited-edition rare drops not available anywhere else in the game.

How often do EM events happen?

Most active shards (Atlantic, Great Lakes, Pacific, Catskills, Lake Austin, Europa, Baja, Chesapeake, Drachenfels, Lake Superior, Legends, Napa Valley, Origin, Sonoma) run two to four EM events per month. The cadence varies by EM availability — quieter shards may run one event per month while busier shards run weekly arcs during major holiday seasons (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, in-game anniversaries).

What rewards drop at EM events?

EM events drop a curated mix of cosmetic rares, named statuettes, hued (custom-color) clothing pieces, scrolls of transcendence, and storyline-tied artifacts. Rewards are dropped to participants randomly via a corpse loot or handed out by the EM after the encounter. A handful of rare drops per event become sought-after collectibles — see our /event-rares index for confirmed drops, screenshots, and current player-market prices.

How do I attend an EM event?

Log into the shard the event is scheduled on at least 10–15 minutes before start time, travel to the announced location (use a recall rune or moongate), and stay near the EM character. Most events allow free participation — no signup or guild membership required. Bring a fast travel character with healing supplies; many events involve combat against scripted monsters that hit hard.

Do EM events happen on free shards?

EM events are exclusive to the official Broadsword-run Ultima Online shards. Free shards (UOR, UO Outlands, UO Forever, etc.) often run their own staff-led events with their own reward systems, but those are not EM events in the original sense. The schedule on this page only tracks official Broadsword EM events across the live shard list.
